Wacker Neuson presents battery-powered vibratory plate for emission-free compaction to add to the battery-powered rammers.
Wacker Neuson positioned itself as a leader in the area of emission-free compaction technology already in 2015, with the introduction of the first battery-powered rammer models. In 2018, the company is expanding the solutions of its zero emissions series to include the single-direction battery-powered vibratory plate AP1850e.
AP1850e – Battery-Powered Vibratory Plate
The zero emissions series from Wacker Neuson, with the green “e”, stands for zero emissions, more operating comfort and a high level of performance. The series is now being expanded to include another solution: the single direction battery-powered vibratory plate AP1850e. In addition to traditional compaction work of granular soils or asphalt and the vibration of paving stones, it also facilitates work indoors and other emissions-sensitive areas, such as in trenches and shoring.
The battery-powered vibratory plate is also suitable for application in water protection areas, since no combustion engines may be used there.
A major advantage of the battery-powered vibratory plate is its modular concept. The battery used and the battery charger are the same modules that are also used in the battery-powered rammers from Wacker Neuson. This increases flexibility and in particular the economic efficiency
because customers can use the battery in any one of the two units as needed and charge another battery in the meantime. The batteries can be removed without tools so that the operator can replace the discharged battery with a charged battery in a few simple steps. The battery system used was developed in-house by Wacker Neuson and has been specially designed for application on vibrating machines and for tough construction site conditions.
Another plus of the battery-operated vibratory plate is its low operating costs typical maintenance work of conventional models, such as on the carburettor, is eliminated here. Energy costs are also saved – namely up to 70 per cent.
The battery-powered vibratory plate AP1850e is the only single-direction vibratory plate on the market without a V-belt, as the engine is mounted directly on the base plate. This also saves maintenance effort and costs. The battery-powered vibratory plate AP1850e is available with and without a water tank.
Fit for the Future
Electric drives are becoming increasingly important in the construction industry because many customers require a solution for special projects, such as for interior renovations or for tunnel construction, and they can then simply rent this equipment. Many gardening and landscape companies are generally open to battery-powered products, since they do a great deal of work in urban areas, parks and private gardens and want to avoid noise and exhaust emissions.
The electric vibratory plate is another step for Wacker Neuson to be able to offer a real alternative as an emission-free solution in every main product group in the near future. Already today, in addition to the emission-free compaction technology, Wacker Neuson customers get a battery-powered wheel loader and dumper as well as the mini-excavator 803 dual power, which can optionally be operated conventionally or emission-free using an external electro-hydraulic power unit.
Wacker Neuson Battery-Powered Rammers
The battery-powered rammers are available in two versions: the smaller AS30e model is a special rammer for compacting between pipes and other tight areas and the AS50e battery-powered vibratory rammer is used for all traditional rammer work. The batteries of both machines can be removed without tools so that the operator can replace the discharged battery with a charged battery in a few simple steps.
The battery specifically designed and developed by Wacker Neuson for application in vibrating machines is characterised by its robustness and safety. The lithium-ion battery designed for harsh job site work offers a consistent power output throughout the entire discharge phase, which leads to a constant compaction performance from the first to the last minute of work. Aging effects can be minimised by an active cooling during operation of the rammer and when loading, and extreme temperatures from -10 to +50°C will not damage the sturdy battery. The compaction performance of the battery-powered rammers corresponds to the time-tested and proven Wacker Neuson two-cycle rammers of the same class. Savings of 55 per cent
Due to the zero-emissions – thanks to the electric motor and battery – both models easily meet stringent requirements, for example, urban construction areas or work in trenches.
Another advantage of the battery-powered rammer is its low operating costs, as the electric motor is completely maintenance-free. Costs and effort that are typically incurred for plate compactors and rammers with combustion engines, due to typical maintenance work on air filters, spark plugs and the carburettor, can also be spared. The energy costs are also priced significantly lower: around 55 per cent in energy costs can be saved by operating with electricity. In addition, the easy start at the push of a button speaks for the battery-powered rammer. Moreover, batteries and battery chargers are designed so that they can be used independently from the model.
