Ploughman Excavations and Bobcat

Ploughman Excavations and its owner, Ross Ploughman, was sold on Bobcat equipment long before the current offer of 0% finance on the E20 and E17 mini excavators came up.

Ploughman Excavations is based in Blackburn, near Melbourne in Victoria, and the company focusses on the construction, civil and landscaping sectors, backed by a diverse, impeccably maintained and state-of-the-art equipment fleet.

A big part of that equipment fleet are four Bobcat machines: an E55z excavator, MT100 mini track loader, a skid-steer loader, and an E20 mini excavator.

A loyal customer

Ploughman Excavations and Bobcat have some history.

“We’ve been using Bobcat for 36 years,” smiled the well-spoken and incredibly courteous Ross Ploughman. “I’ve had one or two.”

Ploughman Excavations prides itself on never saying no to a job involving earthworks and machinery, and its equipment is kept in first-class order at all times.

“We take a lot of pride in our machinery,” explained Ross. “Our machines are absolutely immaculate and we keep them that way throughout their life.

“From a marketing point of view they really stand out as well. My son runs the Ploughman Excavations Instagram page and the machines always come up looking fantastic.”

Ross explained Ploughman Excavations would take on any project that needed the use of machinery, in either overall completion or as a contribution to a project for somebody else, and we asked how the Bobcats contributed to that aim.

“All Bobcat products are very, very intelligently designed,” he mused, “and I think the E20z is an outstanding machine in its class.

“Most guys, because of the restraints of carrying small excavators around on trailers, normally go for a 1.5-tonne to 1.7-tonne machine. Once it’s contracted hydraulically, the E20 will configure itself down to the same width as a 1.5-tonne machine, and the pure grunt and the reach of the E20 is just phenomenal. It just leaves everything else for dead.

“And it’s such a comfortable machine to sit on as well.”

The human touch

The machinery is only part of the Bobcat equation, as Ross pointed out.

“Anybody can sell you a machine of any description or of any colour or brand, but the true testimony of what you’ve bought is actually the aftersales service and support you receive,” he confided. “Clark Equipment Dandenong, the dealership we work with, genuinely go to an enormous amount of trouble to look after us.

“We’re a family business, and building relationships is a very high priority for us. The guys at Bobcat are people of the utmost integrity in the way they deal with us. They’re extremely fussy because they know we’re extremely fussy, and I can say with hand on heart we’re very much one big happy family.

“I couldn’t do without them.”
