Alison Flakemore, Director, Alison’s Garden and Landscape was recognised as the winner of the 2020 Telstra Tasmanian Business Women’s Small Business Award.
More than 20 years ago, Alison Flakemore entered the garden and landscape industry with an old van, a lawnmower and basic hand tools. Today, Alison’s Garden and Landscape is an industry leader.
Having no formal education past year 10, Alison studied horticulture at night school to gain her qualifications, while working during the day. In a largely male- dominated industry, Alison has led her team to assist the community of Tasmania with all of their garden, landscaping and excavation needs. The team work on public and not-for-profit housing and helped introduce a sharps disposal system, which has significantly reduced any immediate risk to the community.
“Gardens heighten our senses without thought, sight, smell, touch, taste and sound. I have a vision of community improvement through sustainable horticulture,” said Alison.
