Cub Cadet XT2 LX 42 Ride-on Lawn Tractor

Although ride-on lawn tractors are not as popular with contractors as they were a couple of decades ago, there are still many situations where they are suited.

The improvements from the old machines I started using over 25 years ago are enormous and the new Cub Cadet XT2 LX 42 Ride-on Lawn Tractor is no exception.

This smart-looking machine is powered by Cub Cadet’s own 679cc fuel injected V-twin OHV engine. This engine is electronically fuel injected so it consumes up to 25 per cent less fuel than its carburetted rivals saving the owner many dollars over the life of the machine. When the hood is tilted forward there is ample access around the engine for routine maintenance. The oil filter is unobstructed and easily removed, the spark plugs accessed with no trouble and the air filter cover simply removed with a twist of two knobs. I like the oil drain set-up because no tools are required to drain the oil. It is just a simple twist snap-lock setup and with a small hose attached the oil can be drained quickly and easily without mess.

Compared to older lawn tractors the Cub Cadet XT2 LX has a great turning circle making manoeuvring around tight obstacles and 180-degree turns fast, therefore creating an efficient machine. The high back seat on springs with foldable armrests is quite comfortable and so is the overall ride. The steering is very light, especially compared to older models.

The Cub Cadet XT2 LX features a keyless push button start with removable button, which eliminates the possibility of a child starting the machine and reduces the risk of theft.

The 12-position height adjustment is light to operate and easy to adjust. Other standout features are the LED headlights and front nudge bar, snap-on hose wash port and mulch plug. A handy drink holder and storage compartment is located to the left of the operator’s seat.

Fuel levels can be assessed at a glance whilst sitting in the operator’s seat thanks to a sight level cutout exposing the corner of the fuel tank. The hydro drive makes operation simple with heal/toe and reverse/ forward pedals ensuring a fast change of direction. An automatic engaging diff-lock gives the operator peace of mind improving traction on rugged and undulating terrain.

The 42-inch pressed deck expelled the cut grass well leaving a neat and even cut.

Cub Cadet offers an impressive limited domestic warranty of three years (five years on chassis/front axle) and three months for commercial applications.

Overall, the Cub Cadet XT2 LX 42 Ride-on Lawn Tractor is an easy to operate, capable machine suited well to the domestic market.
